This past weekend my husband and I visited the Custom House in Hamilton. We had been in the building before and so we knew what we were walking into. It is a beautiful building with a lot of history. We waited a bit for the tour to start and there was well over 60 people that were equally excited as we were to be there. They set the mood by adding darkness lit only by candlelight in the meeting room. Two men (actors) came in with lanterns and in character right from the beginning. They did a great job at sharing the history of the custom house and putting us all in the mood. I did expect them to be less dramatic and more about letting the building speak for it’s self , but that wasn’t what this tour was about. They shared great details about the Custom House. Overall, I liked the dramatic part of the tour but sometimes just a good old flashlight and no hall lights on and less drama could have probably made that place a lot creepier for me. I wasn’t scared to enter a room nor did I get goosebumps from a ghost story. I guess I really look forward to a good scare. It was very informative and fun though and I would definitely do it again. |
