Fairmont Algonquin HotelClick For Larger Image
St. Andrews, New Brunswick
Built in the 1800’s and home to 250 rooms that overlook beautiful St. Andrew’s and the sea, the Fairmont comes to life every time a ghost story about it is told. Many people come to the Algonquin for the scenery and some come for the history of the Hotel. The hotel has had its share of ups and downs and had to be rebuilt in 1914 due to a fire that destroyed the original structure. Along with the new memories that are being made comes that of old memories that still feel connected to the property. Over the years several people have witnessed mysterious happenings. Some have even claimed to see the spirits of a lady, one of a bell hop and the spirit of a night watchman. When researchers and investigators checked, they discovered that a lady had in fact died in the hotel. She died of a broken heart and still feels a connection to the hotel. One room in particular on the second floor is a spot where she can be seen almost nightly. At times many visitors have enjoyed minor chitchat with a very polite gentleman who escorts them to the elevator upon arrival, only to discover that they never would see him again and that the hotel itself doesn’t actually employ anyone that fits this mans description.

The Genii
St. Andrews, New Brunswick
A ship famous for being unlucky in its travels to sea met its toll one fateful night during a storm at sea. Bringing the ship to the end of its travels on the bay of St. John. The ships captain never made it aboard that night, but it did take the lives of the crewman who did board. Days later the bodies of the crew washed up on land, one coming in later than all the others. When found they were dragged to a nearby house and laid out on the land. The body of the last crewman that showed up days later about a mile away from the others is the one that strikes up the most intriguing conversations. It is believed he is seen roaming the edges of the bay looking for something or someone, and it is on dark foggy nights when he seems to make his appearance known to all who are at the shores. Another spirit, that of a young lady who also roams the beach at night in search of someone, is believed to be following in his footsteps. It is rumored that she killed herself over the loss of her only true love, and is still out there searching for him to this day. Not only do the shores hold a haunted past, the property that stored the bodies of the other crewman of the lost vessel does as well. Objects have moved on their own throughout the building, strange sounds can be heard and the figures or spirits of the men, who were laid out on the land, are seen wandering around looking for answers.

Charlotte County Court HouseClick For Larger Image
Charlotte, New Brunswick
The courthouse was built in the 1840’s and has been declared a national historic site since 1983. The community often used the property for elections, fairs, parades and official visits. Still being used today makes this courthouse the oldest courthouse in use in Canada. Located appropriately across the road from the courthouse is the county gaol, dating back to 1832 and was used up until the late 70’s. Now this is where the story is different than all the others, usually we discuss the story and the place but this one has an opposite effect on the typical ghost stories we research. The courthouse is indeed haunted but not because of any deaths that were caused inside the building, but for all the death and torture that was experienced in the Gaol across the road. This jail is known as one of the last places to hang convicts in Canada. In fact, visitors to the courthouse experience drafts and the feeling of being watched. Few have claimed they have seen the spirit of a man carrying a piece of rope. He comes across very hostile and appears that he is looking for something. No one has ever had a close encounter with this spirit because of the hostility that emits from him when he appears; no one takes a chance to get close to this spirit.
